Rear axle halfshaft failure, sailsbury axles with disc brakes
We are now experiencing excessive wear and failure of the outer splines of the halfshaft and drive member on the later disc braked rear axles fitted to 110 and 130 vehicles, It seems to be because the oil seals are so good no lubricant reaches the splines. Its an easy job to prevent this as all you have to do is prise off the plastic cap on the end of the halfshaft and fill it with good quality semi fluid grease and refit the cap the lubricant will work its way down the splines and stop further wear.

We have had lots of problems with carburettor freezing in cold climates (this includes U.K winter). It is mainly due to the fact that the originally fitted heat shields have been removed from the exhaust manifold and radiator fan cowl to make maintainance easier, put them back on and heat from the exhaust and radiator stops the carb freezing.

Dont forget to remove and clean out the gearbox oil filter when doing this job as we have found it is a job often forgotten about. The gearboxes do last much longer with this lubricant. Its quite expensive but lasts 100,000 miles.
